USCIS’ New H-1B Cap Registration Process is Underway

As of March 1, 2020, the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) online H-1B registration tool is open for employers and their representatives to submit electronic registrations to seek acceptance under the annual H-1B cap lottery on behalf of potential H-1B workers.

The online H-1B registration system is a new process this year and few details regarding its implementation or functionality were announced in advance.

Employers and representatives access the online registration system by creating an account with USCIS’ myUSCIS online portal. Through this portal, employers or their representatives can complete a registration form, which requires basic information about the employer and the potential H-1B workers for which the registration is being submitted.

So far initial reports have revealed minor technical glitches in using the online system, but many users have reported being able to successfully complete their registrations.

The H-1B registration period will close on March 20, 2020 at noon Eastern.  Employers have until then to complete registrations for potential H-1B workers.

USCIS intends to notify employers of whether their registrations have been selected in the lottery by March 31, 2020. If selected, registrants will be provided at least 90 days from the date of notification in order to submit an H-1B Petition on behalf of the beneficiary.

There is still time left for employers to complete registrations on behalf of potential H-1B workers. If you have questions about seeking an H-1B registration, or the H-1B visa program in general, please contact Kolko & Casey, P.C. at (303) 371-1822 to schedule a consultation with an experienced immigration attorney.
