Termination of TPS for Beneficiaries of Sudan effective November 2, 2018

On September 18, 2017, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) announced that the designation for Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for Sudan would be terminated on November 2, 2018.

The Acting Secretary of DHS, Elain Duke, accounced that she has determined that the conditions in Sudan no longer support its designation for TPS.

Sudan was originally designated for TPS in 1997, due to the ongoing armed conflict and civil war. The country was re-designated in 1999, 2004, and 2013.

Current beneficiaries may extend their TPS status by re-registering, and will be eligible to receive an extension until November 2, 2018.

Sudanse TPS beneficiaries will continue to hold any other immigration status that they maintained or acquired while registered for TPS.

Individuals who have no other immigration status in the United States have been directed to use the time before the TPS termination to either prepare for their departure from the United States or appy for any immigration benefit for which they may be eligible.
