A good day’s work

A good day’s work

Here at Kolko & Associates, we really love our job. Each of us truly love coming to work and we love that it is our job to help families stay together, help employers bring in necessary employees to further their business, help individuals avoid deportation and help those fleeing harm find a safe life in the United States.

For many of our clients, their primary goal is to obtain lawful permanent residence (a “Green Card”) in the United States. A Green Card gives a person permission to live and work legally and permanently in the United States. They can travel abroad to visit family members and then return to their life in the United States. And, of course, having a Green Card for at least 3 or 5 years is a pre-prerequisite for applying for U.S. citizenship.

We probably have at least one client a week have his or her application for a Green Card approved. Receiving a Green Card after many years of waiting is a huge milestone for our clients. It is always wonderful to be the one to call the client and let them know that finally, they have been approved. It is not uncommon for the person on the other end of the line to weep with joy, or bless you a thousand times, or just to offer deep and sincere gratitude. I think all the attorneys here would agree that making that call is one of the best parts of our job.

This week, our Firm had its own milestone: 10 Green Cards approved in one day. The 10 individuals who were approved for lawful permanent residence on December 1, 2015 were eligible for their Green Card in different ways.

Four of our clients were eligible for lawful permanent residence based on visa petitions filed on their behalf by a U.S. citizen spouse or stepparent.

One of our clients was the beneficiary of a petition filed over 13 years ago by his U.S. citizen sibling. Thirteen years later, our client, along with his spouse and 2 children had their applications for lawful permanent residence approved at the local USCIS Office after an interview with the Immigration Service.

Two of our clients were approved in front of an Immigration Judge in Immigration Court. Both clients were married to U.S. citizens and had been waiting for final decisions on their Green Card applications for many years.

A good day’s work indeed…
