On May 22, 2018, United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) announced that the final registration period for Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for citizens of Nepal is open and beneficiaries must re-register before July 23, 2019.
Beneficiaries of TPS from Nepal are currently granted protection and employment authorization until June 24, 2018. Due to the anticipated delay in processing the re-registration applications, USCIS has automatically extended employment authorization for all Nepalese TPS beneficiaries for 180 days until December 21, 2018.
USCIS previously announced that conditions in Nepal had improved such that the TPS designation was no longer justified and, following one final 12 month extension, that the TPS designation for Nepal would be terminated on June 24, 2019.
If you are a beneficiary of TPS from Nepal, you should be aware of the July 23, 2019 deadline to re-register and consult with an experienced immigration attorney regarding your eligibility to re-register and to review any options you may have after TPS is terminated.
